Del Mar Pines School

Computer Science

Del Mar Pines computer instruction program is designed to ensure that students acquire requisite knowledge and skills that will enable them to use computers as productivity tools. Beginning in kindergarten and continuing through sixth grade, students concentrate on becoming more efficient, effective writers and researchers, as well as more logical thinkers and creative communicators.

Kindergarten and first grade students become familiar with computers and their operation, while augmenting basic skills in reading, problem-solving and imaginative expression.

Second graders build on these bases, start to use computers as utensils to help them communicate more productively, and begin typing.

Third grade students continue their keyboarding skills.

Fourth graders begin venturing into word processing while they are introduced to the Internet, with a focus towards safe and constructive exploration of its exhaustive resources.

Finally, fifth and sixth grade students concentrate on graphics integration, spreadsheets and presentation software, as well as advanced word processing and Internet-based research.

Employing this instructional continuum, we ensure that Del Mar Pines graduates are able to utilize computer technology to most effectively help them learn, explore and communicate with others.
