DMP Science Discovery Day: Three Decades of Inspiring Young Scientists
Thirty years ago, a Del Mar Pines School science teacher created Science Discovery Day with a simple idea: invite parent volunteers to share their scientific knowledge and professional experience with students. Today, the event remains a favorite DMP tradition, giving children the chance to learn from parents working in medicine, engineering, technology, and other science-related fields.
Hands-On Science in Action
This year's Science Discovery Day brought science to life through interactive demonstrations and experiments. Students explored the chemistry of making ice cream, human anatomy, X-rays, bacteria and viruses, and how the heart and brain work. They also experimented with floating eggs, motors, and water movement; built microscopes; discovered how cell phones communicate; and learned how fusion energy powers the stars.

Connecting Science to Future Careers
Science Discovery Day is special because it lets students learn directly from professionals in the DMP parent community. Students see how science is used in real careers, from doctors caring for patients to engineers developing new technologies.
These experiences help children connect classroom lessons to the world around them while inspiring curiosity about their own futures.
A Special DMP Tradition
As a private elementary school in San Diego, Del Mar Pines School values hands-on STEM learning and experiential education that extend beyond the classroom.
Thank you to our parent presenters, teachers, and volunteers for making Science Discovery Day such a memorable experience and inspiring the next generation of scientists!
